Captain Joel L. Janc, U.S.M.C While Joel was only at MHS our senior year, he was well known and a close friend to many of us who had attended O.L.P.H. grade school together. His family owned the Janc Drug Store in downtown Hessville. After graduation, Joel went on to college at Northern Illinois University. He met his future wife there and upon graduating, enlisted in the Marine Corp and became a fighter pilot. After completing several combat missions over Vietnam, he returned home to finish up his active duty. While serving as a pilot training officer in North Carolina, he was killed in an air crash on March 15, 1971. Joel was survived by his wife Jan and 2 young sons. He will never be forgotten.
