Ethel Mae "Chick-a- Boo'' Woods Newkirk, 43, of St. Marc Circle, South Windsor, departed this life Sunday (June 9, 1996), peaceful and quietly at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ethel Mae (Kirkland) and Frank Woods. She was born in Bessemer, AL, and had lived in Hartford most of her life. She had lived in South Windsor the last six months. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She was employed by the State of Connecticut for 22 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Stephanie Lakisha Woods and Nikkia Lashay Newkirk, both of Hartford; a dear and devoted friend, Tony Rayvon Harris; four sisters, Mary Lee Perkins and Frankie Hopskins, both of Bessemer, AL, Bessie A. and Betty Jean Woods, both of Hartford; a brother, Johnny B. Woods of Selma, AL; a grandson, De Vaughn Woods Walters; six aunts; three uncles; her mother-in-law, Louise Newkirk; five sisters-in-law; two brothers- in-law; a godmother, Mattie Eubanks; two godbrothers, Eddie and Desmond Eason; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives; and dear and loving friends. She was predeceased by a brother, James Albert Woods. Funeral services will be Thursday (June 13), 11 a.m., with calling hour at 10 a.m., at Welcome Baptist Church, 205 Bellevue St., Hartford.
