I attended Franklin College in Indiana receiving my B.A. in Education and History in 1968. I also met my beautiful wife Diane (Trzyna) there. Played football my Freshman and Sophomore years.
I returned to Hastings and was hired by the Croton-Harmon High School where I taught Social Studies and was the line coach for their football team. However, when school was out in June, I received a welcome letter from Uncle Sam. Rather than be drafted, I joined the USAF and went to the Officer Training School at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. Much to my surprise, 6 weeks later my buddy Lance Johnson appeared at the same program.
Not long after receiving my gold Lieutenant bars, Diane and I were married at the Naval Chapel in Washington, D.C. Her Dad was a Captain in the Navy.
I spent four years in the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, most of that time at McGuire AFB in New Jersey working with C141's and eventually C5's. Once again, my buddy Lance was also assigned to McGuire as a pilot and we continued our friendship.
The smartest move I made while at McGuire was to enroll in the MBA program the Air Force was sponsoring through Southern Illinois U.
Upon receiving my MBA, I left the Air Force at the rank of Captain and was heavily recruited by corporate America. I was planning on getting into Sales and Marketing until I met several executives at Xerox who convinced me to join their Human Resources organization in Rochester, NY.
I spent over 30 years in HR as a Senior Officer at several high tech firms in San Diego in the areas of semiconductors, software and medical devices. It was an incredibly rewarding career both professionally and financially.
Our daughters Kristin, who was born in Rochester and Lauren, who was born in San Diego turned out to be two great kids. Kristin, who went to UCSB and Lauren, who went to Arizona State have very successful careers and families. Kristin is Director of Marketing for Shopatron, an on-line B to B software company. Lauren is a Director of Corporate Leasing for California Banc. Diane and I have been blessed with two beautiful grandchildren Jackson (9) and Madeline (6). Their dad, Eric is Dept. Chairman of Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Son-in-law Dave Timlin is a Sales Executive with Ingram Micro.
Now, somewhat retired, I'm involved with an Angel Investor group assisting early stage entrepreneurial companies.
