pretty boring ... my parents were in the city and I was home alone. Our next door neighbor, Bill Montgomery, came over and built a fire for me in the fireplace and I read by its light for a few hours...

Boring!  Not for the football team.  We had just finished practice and had hit the showers, all soapy and wet when Coach Bub poked his head in the shower room and yelled, "Lights out in 5".  Sure enough, a few minutes later the lights went out and we all went looking for the Coach, naked and dripping wet.

I was working at the A&P in Hastings the night of the East Coast blackout. Everything electric stopped, including the automatic doors. We hung around for awhile eating Twinkies and waiting for the power to go on again, but it didn't. Remember the full moon that night? It was HUGE. The Andrus Home (retirement home) was at the bottom of my street, and when I got home, it was the only thing with lights because the generators had kicked in.
