In case your memory is failing, here's the story from The Buzzer. I particularly like two statements: "Tuesday morning none of the group was in any shape to finish the tour..." and "During the weekend there were some very interesting happenings..."

Click on "topic" to add your reply -- Prove you were really there by explaining some of these "happenings" ...

I missed all the "happinings",because I was leading a young men's prayer group. But I did have a week long headache.

We were the last senior class to go to Washington. My sister never lets me forget it. Like I was personally responsible.  But we all had a great time and for that I am grateful.  Susan Kultzow Kane

When we were in 8th grade, after some disastrous field trip, I said that if our class ever made it to Washington, it would be the last one.  I didn't go, but my sisters still think it was my fault that they couldn't.

If I remember... someone left footprints on a hotel room ceiling, Someone went to Virginia? to buy 3.2 beer,  A certain football team "asked" every adult to leave the train car so we could party (a bit of a stink by some airline pilot, what was he doing on a train anyway), some teacher got in trouble - something about his hand down some students blouse?  Some football players got sick because we were forced to climb to the top of the Washington monument after drinking and partying all night. But then I am old and my memory is really bad.  DC and the train company were probably thinking of some other school when they "requested" that we don't come back again.

A couple of comments.  The trip was essentially my first post-high school experience.  HS cliques disappeared; I got to know and love Jill and Dede, rest their lovely souls.  ROK Kedney somehow managed to buy (with our money) five cases of beer.  It went in our bathtub of ice.  A party started in our room.  About 8 p.m. I answered a knock on the door - it was "Red" Walsh, one of the chaperones.  "What the hell's going on here?"  Me:  "Um, it's a party.  Like to join us?"  Him:  "Don't mind if I do."  We all got drunk, had the time of our lives.  For me it was an HHS high point.

On the train home, Red behaved badly, got in big trouble back in Hastings.  Too bad.  He was a good guy.  Never got fired though.

Also on the train, I took up a collection to pay the motel for damage to a room.  Seems some female students were jumping on the beds and broke them to bits..  Don't know what else was broken.  Nancy or Sue Cavanagh might know something about it.

13 years later I believe my brother Alan got the next trip to Washington!
