Steven Pecylak

Steve Pecylak (59) passed away peacefully at his home in Westerlo, N.Y. after a courageous battle with cancer on September 8, 2007, with his loving family by his side. Steve was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on January 9, 1948, the son of Ksenia (Seredin-sky) Pecylak and the late John Pecylak. He grew up in Hastings on Hudson, N.Y. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on July 30, 1966 and served in Vietnam. He was wounded and honorably discharged with a Purple Heart on October 25, 1967. In 1976, he moved to Westerlo, N.Y. where he married his wife Lorraine Scott in 1977.

Steve worked as a carpenter until 1981 and then worked 26 years as a corrections officer, retiring from Greene Correctional Facility on August 2, 2007. He was also a member of the Northern Catskill Racing Pigeon Club in Cairo, N.Y. for 22 years. Raising and racing pigeons was his love.

Steve is survived by his wife Lorraine; son David and daughter Andrea, all of Westerlo, N.Y. Also his mother Ksenia; two sisters Irene Hess and Maryann Pirozek all of Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.

Funeral service will be Wednesday 10:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, N.Y. with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Westerlo Central Cemetery. Those who desire are requested to donate in his memory to the Community Hospice of their choice or to St. John the Baptist Church.

Steve had the heart and strength of a  Lion .. He was a good person, I was sorry to learn of his early passing. May he rest in peace ..   Jack Dera Deragopian.
