Bob was one of my first friends when I moved to Hayward in the 5th grade. He was a an extraordinary athlete. We lost touch after 1970. Does anyone have some more recent history about him? Jeffery Luhn

Bob and I had the same birthday. So we always had something in common. Bob sent me, Judy Verhoek (Ruiz) and Linda Raplee (Irby) some face book messages 3 years ago when he was in Hawaii.Bob always had the best smile, was a great athlete and loved the ocean and all creatures in it. He was always nice to me in high school. That was a hell of a ride. Crazy times for all.

Bob will be missed.

Was so sad to hear about Bob I knew him since Kindergarden he was always soft spoken and pleasant to be around in our younger years..Most boys were mean and hateful to the girls but not him. I remember in the 3rd grade at xmas we drew names and he got mine. I didn`t make it to the party that day but someone brought the present to me and they were 2 beautiful Angels I loved them and kept them for a long time ...fond memories God Bless you Bob ....Barbara

First time I met Bob was in May, 1958 when we moved to Hayward. He come to the door the first day and asked if my brother Randy and I could play, we were immediate buddies. He lived a few houses away and we played all the time. We had a great life as kids on that block, so many adventures. The best way to put it in a few words would be that if I wrote a book about my early childhood he would be one of the major characters.

Although we went our own ways in High School that childhood bond was always there (and still is now that I think of it). I did see Bob a few times in the early 70's....once when he and Wayne Solomon were going snow shoeing somewhere around Tahoe, I gave them a ride as far Strawberry, dropped them off and they got out to hitchhike the rest of the way (I'd almost bet two good looking girls picked them up). The other time was a little partying at Pleasure Point. I didn't surf but man, Bob was a great surfer, as well as swimmer and skier, among other things.

I'm not much at communicating through social media or whatever this is, but Bob's passing sort of hit me hard and brought back a flood of memories. Guess I had to share them. I sure was blessed to know him. There was a low key service for Bob in Maui and then his brother Gordy and Gordy's son Chris spread Bob's ashes from a boat out over the ocean. Talk about an endless summer.

I was on the swimming team and of course, Bob was a great swimmer, he was the butterflyer on the team and one of the best, I loved Bob,  he was a great guy and a great athelete and I can't believe he's no longer with us, I am very sad to understand this, Bob was my hero.  Bob was and is the epitomy of what people in that highschool should have been.  Bob was the god of Hayward High.
