David Lommel Obituary
Lommel, David Carl
March 2, 1957 - August 13, 2022. David Carl Lommel of Chester- field, Missouri, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2022. He was 65 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michele Lommel, step-daughter Courtney (Tony) Calero, and grandsons Micah and Nico; siblings Karen (Steven) Richter, Marsha Lommel, Donna (Joe) Cusumano, Richard (Sylvia) Lommel, Ken (Diane) Lommel, and Eileen (Dan) Holtzman; in-laws Arthur and Earlene Hardy, Dennis (Sherry) Hardy, Jackie (Gary) Woodcock; 16 nieces and nephews, and 19 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Lommel of Florissant, Missouri, and step- son, Tyler Behrens. Dave was blessed with the love and friendship of countless extended family, friends, and colleagues.
Dave was a 1975 graduate of Hazelwood High School and a proud graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He used his mastery of software programming to build his own company, specializing in the public safety sector. Dave was committed to continuously improving the systems required by first-responders, as was reflected not only in his profession but in his personal life through his dedication to law enforcement organizations. He served many years as a part-time sheriff's deputy in Crawford County, Missouri, until his retirement in 2017.
Dave's hobbies included tending to and enjoying his land in Cuba, Missouri, where most of his favorite activities took place: hunting, fishing, shooting, riding ATVs, and hanging out with his brothers and nephews. He and Michele enjoyed traveling after retirement, which Dave documented by taking countless photos of scenery and wildlife sightings. Dave never missed a Cardinals game and was a student of Cardinals history. He adored dogs, especially their little Ellie.
But more than anything, Dave cared deeply about all the children in his life. His grandsons, nieces, and nephews shared a special bond with the guy who was always up for building blocks on the floor, going to the playground, or sharing ice cream. Dave attended every graduation and wedding and was profoundly proud and delighted by each of their budding careers and growing families. He checked in often, offered advice, and ensured each had updated technology and was operating it securely. But Dave's enormous generosity extended to any child sick or in need, his devotion to Friends of Kids with Cancer in particular significantly impacted the local charity's success.
Arrangements are private, and the family plans to celebrate Dave's life soon. The family would be most grateful if you wish to remember Dave with a contribution to one of his favored organizations. Friends of Kids with Cancer
