Emigrated in 1880 from the tiny village of Glen Flesk, approximately five miles from the town of Killarney (County Kerry), Ireland, to work for his uncle, Henry Heagerty, who owned a hotel and bar in San Francisco, CA. Henry paid for young David's passage to America, in exchange for unpaid work at the hotel. Room and board were provided to David at the hotel until his obligation was satisfied.
