On Jan. 21, 2007, Scott Patrick Ricker, 26, after a long fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), made his transition from this life to the next, at his home surrounded by his family. His smiles, laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed but not forgotten by all who knew him. Scott was born Dec. 24, 1980 in Helena, to Robert and Gail Ricker.
He attended Rossiter Elementary, C.R. Anderson Middle School and Capital High School. He was active in many sports including football and baseball, but he especially loved his basketball. He loved the outdoors including camping and hunting with his friends and family and enjoyed attending rodeos. Scott's hobbies included model building, photography and listening to his music. Scott was an inspiration to those close to him by how he dealt with his disease and still maintained his humor and ability to make us laugh.
Scott is survived by his parents, Robert and Gail Ricker of Helena; brother, Tim; sister-in-law, Savannah and nephew, Colt Ricker of Bozeman; sister, Chris; brother-in-law, Scott and nephews, Corbin and Ian Brandt of Land-O-Lakes Fla.; grandmother, Fran Goodpaster of Laurel and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The Ricker family would like to extend a special thanks to Sherry and Anna of Hospice of St. Peter's for all their extra special support and kind attention they provided Scott and the family. A memorial service celebrating Scott's life is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Retz Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. Post 10010 in East Helena. Memorials in Scott's name are suggested to Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601.
