Brady Lawson died unexpectedly on Jan. 21, 2003, at the University of Washington Medical Center from complication from surgery. He was 22.

Brady was born on Dec. 24, 1980, in Longmont Colo., and moved to Marysville when he was eight. Brady attended elementary school in Helena and graduated from Capitol High in 2000.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force immediately following high school and completed basic training in Texas and technical training in Texas and Arizona. He was then assigned to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas where he served as crew chief on F-16 fighter jets.

Brady's life growing up in Marysville was full and adventurous. In his first years there, he and his friends explored the mountains, built numerous forts, hiked, fished and camped. Next came skiing, and Brady took to it with his natural zest and ability. He was a regular sight at Great Divide and soon developed into an expert skier. He also broadened his adventures with hunting, snowmobiling, four-wheelers, motorcycles and Jeeps.

Brady was filled with energy and ambition. He got his first job at 14 at Marysville House and worked there all through his high-school years. Hundreds of people enjoyed his cooking skills.

Brady was a people person with an outstanding personality, wit and sense of humor. When he walked into a room, his brilliant smile and energy lit it up. He instantly made friends everywhere he went. He had a wonderful way with children and always had time for everyone, regardless of age.

He is survived by his parents, Marc and Deena Korting of Marysville and Steve and Dawn Lawson of Lyons, Colo., fiancee Amy O'Connell of Helena, grandparents Ann Korting of Marysville, Herb and Charlotte Eskildsen of Helena, Louis and Alice Lawson of Florida, and Don and Roberta Hartshorn of Kansas, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brady Jay, there are simply no words to express how much we miss you already.

There was a memorial service on January 25 at the Helena College of Technology, with Father Stephen Brehe officiating. Hagler-Anderson Mortuary handled arrangements.
