William Plettenberg

William Charles Pettenberg, age 54, of East Helena, passed away at his home on Dec. 22, 2001. He was born on February 7, 1947, in Helena to Elmer H. and Madge A. (Travis) Plettenberg. He married MaryAnn Vetsch on July 8, 1967, in East Helena.

He was a lifetime resident of East Helena, attended school in East Helena and graduated from Helena High in 1965. Employed by ASARCO since May of 1965, retiring in April of 2001, he was a member of United Steel Workers Union Local 72. Was in the Army Reserve from February 1966 and retired in October 1995. He was assigned to HHC 159th Support Group in Operation Desert Storm, was awarded numerous service ribbons and awards including the Bronze Star.

Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, MaryAnn; sons David of Glendale, Ariz., and Steve of Helena; grandson Spencer of Ft. Irwin, Calif.; sisters Mary Schilla of Helena and Diane Smith of Montana City and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his dad and mom.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. in Hagler-Anderson Chapel with Skip Venard, retired Army Chaplain officiating. Military graveside services will be in the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. At Bill’s request, those attending the services should please dress casually. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hagler Anderson Mortuary.
