George R. Anderson

Helena Man Dies While In Vietnam

Army Staff Sgt. George R. Anderson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Anderson, 100 Cedar, died Sunday from injuries received in a fall in Vietnam, according to word received Wednesday by his parents.

Details of his death were not immediately available.

The War Department notified the Andersons that their son received head fractures in the accident.

Anderson was born March 29, 1947, in Helena and attended schools here including Helena Senior High School.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Betty Gillespie and Janet Anderson of Helena and numerous aunts and uncles in Fairfield and Seattle.

Anderson had served with the Army for almost two years in Germany before going to Vietnam where he had been for about eight months.  He was trained at Fort Ord, California and Fort Gordon, Georgia.
