Greg Smith VIEW PROFILE

Greg Smith

Gregory King Smith (Greg Smith) was born August 27,1947 and passed on November 7, 2022. Greg moved to Hemet from Ohio just before starting High School. He said it was a hard transition but basketball plus the kind, welcoming classmates made it easier. He loved playing basketball but still remembered the CIF Championship game loss like it was yesterday.

He got his AA degree from MSJC, and his BA and Teaching Credential from LaVerne. And got his Masters in Education from Eastern Washington University. He coached at Sonoma State University for 6 years, and then Pasadena City College Women's Basketball for 28 years!  He loved fishing, especially in Yellowstone National Park and in Canada.

He has a daughter Christine with 4 kids, and a son Nate with 2 kids. And his longtime partner JoEllyn.

Greg was one of the good guys. So nice and polite and will be missed by many from the Class of 1965. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.

I was so sorry to hear this sad news. Greg was such a great guy.  I had him in many of my classes during high school, and enjoyed visiting with him at reunions.  What a great career he had and his teams loved him from what I've read in the past. Kind, sincere, gracious; all were traits to describe Greg.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family.  He will be remembered by so many of our classmates.

Rest in peace Greg...heart

Sincerely, Susan

Very Sad to hear the news of a classmate passing. Greg was friendly, and always a joy to be around in school. We had Biology together during our Sophmore yr. Our teacher was the school nurse, Mrs A. Jones. The fun we had  in Her class I will never forget. His smile was unforgetable. Rest In Peace My Friend, You will always be remembered.

Sadly we have lost another wonderful & kind person who helped to make this world a better place, especially the students he taught & coached. What an honor to have known such a great & gentle man & may he rest in peace & be proud of his accomplishments here on earth. Cherish the memories of the wonderful times you shared together & he will always be with all of us.

My deepest sympathy to his family & friends,

Kathy

some things just make you want to sit down and cry!!!  Greg and I knew each other in High School and were

somewhat friends.  But became good friends after that as I sold his mothers home and property for him after she passed.  We visited often and fished as much as possible.  What a great person and good friend.

I remember Greg from high school and always thought he was such a nice, handsome guy!  I got to visit with him at your 50th class reunion and was so impressed that with all of his achievements in his life, he seemed the same, wonderful, modest person he was in high school!

Sincerest sympathies to his family and God bless!  Linda & Tom McMorran
