I think Mr. Simon was one of my favorite teachers throughout my high school years. As I can remember he was very tough but also very fair and made the class extremely interesting. I am certain that students throughout the years had many of the same experiences and gratitude for this awesome human being
Mr. Simon and I sat next to each other at the 1985 reunion, and it delighted him no end when I told him that his Civics class had motivated me to get a Ph.D. in Political Science. BIG SMILE!!! He had received his master's degree in Political Science from UCR and it turned out that we had studied under some of the same professors. We very quickly exchanged addresses and, though I never saw him again, we corresponded often for the rest of his life. When he passed away I felt like I had lost a grandparent. He made a big positive difference in my life and I will always admire him.
