William J. "Billy Jack" Wallace
Sanford
William J. "Billy Jack" Wallace, a native of Sanford, died September 21, 2011 at Forrest General Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg followed by burial in Jesse Bryant Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Bill was a retired school teacher. He taught English and Literature in Hemet, California and Mobile, Alabama. After retirement in Mobile, he returned to Sanford and began teaching in the Covington County Public Schools, where he retired a second time. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Air Force Reserve after serving 20 years.
Bill was a life-long member of Sanford United Methodist Church until it closed. He later attended Grand View and Seminary United Methodist Churches. A lover of music, Bill was an accomplished classical pianist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ance W. Wallace, Sr.; sister, Maxine Wallace Kelly; and brothers, A.W. Wallace, Jr., John Wallace, and Aubrey Wallace.
Survivors include his brother, Jerry (Gaynell) Wallace of Sanford; two nieces, three nephews, several grand nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Grace Wallace.
