If I can remember correctly, Chello died sometime during the summer of 1998 in a car accident. It was a month or so before our 10 year class reunion. I can still remember seeing her mother in front of Stanton during our ride in the parade, and the look on her face was, my daughter should have been on that truck. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family. Blessings!!

The woman who works with me in my classroom is friends with her family. She has given me some information about Chelo and her girls.

I did not know that Chelo had epilepsy. She was driving back from Amarillo College where she was attending classes and had a siezure. She left two young daughters, one of whom just this year had her quincenera. Chelo's mother has raised them.

Chelo's mother just passed away not too long ago. Her children are still living here in Hereford with an aunt I think.

Chelo did pass away in 1998. It was May 5, 1998. I was going through a box of old stuff my mother had at her house yesterday, and found the newspaper clipping there. I had spoken to Chelo the day she had the accident. She was really excited about going to Amarillo because she had an interview for a job with the State. I could not believe when I heard later that evening that she had been in that fatal accident.

I remember that Consuelo was always SO sweet. She had the kindest spirit about her. I also remember hearing about her car accident and being so sad for her children.

I remember Chelo, both from school and later when I returned to Hereford after graduating from law school. She was such a quiet person in school, that you really had to make the effort to speak with her.

After she had her children, Chelo was a different person. She was still a quiet person, but was very determined to provide the best for her children. She was no longer a reserved person, but was more outgoing and very happy. I remember talking with her about her goals and dreams, and all she ever talked to me about was how she loved her family and how she was going to "do right by them." She had a goal and nothing was going to stop her.

I know that she will be with us in spirit at our 20 year reunion, because that is the type of person she became -- very determined to always be a presence in the lives of those she cared about. We love and miss you.

Chelo's youngest daughter (Katerina) recently passed away (May 31st) at the young age of 14.  I know that Chelo is waiting for her in heaven, but also sad that her oldest (Isabella) will miss her deeply.  Lift her family in your prayers.
