Edie and Rick (Witteveen) lived just down the road from my husband John and I for a number of years before Edie passed away. Rick is still our neighbor and we see him now and again. Since our children were not very close in age, we didn't spend a great deal of time with the Witteveen family, but it was nice having them as neighbors. Edie had a beautiful family, all those fun kids, and I'll always remember her as the bubbly, up-beat person she was in high school. I was blessed to get to know her children as students when they moved back to Hesperia. It was wonderful working with them and it is always nice to see them when they stop by HHS. The loss of Rick and Edie's youngest son in Iraq was devastating, and I think of Rick and all that he has gone through often. Keeping him and the kids in our thoughts and prayers and asking God for his continued healing hand. -- KimJoni Smith (Gerard)
