Barry was a special guy, and a favorite among "our group."  He was easy to like, and I always thought of him as a real friend.  Although quiet, he could really dance, and we would make a beeline for each other when the right music was played.  And we would whirl around the whole room, really fast, and never once collided with anyone, even when the floor was full.

Junior High was especially fun.  Since we lived down the street from each other, spend-the-night parties from Barry's house (all guys, of course), sometimes encountered girls from my spend-the-night parties as we all ran around the neighborhood in the middle of the night (who knows if our parents really knew!).  I envied the guys because they could get into more mischief than we girls could.

When he died, I was notified by several different people, and they sent me photos of him and them in later years.  I was so saddened to hear of his death, but happy to have such good memories.  I think of him often, a little wistfully.

I also have several fond memories of Barry growing up. We played football together from elementary school thru high school and I remember him as a feisty competitor and good sport. Neither one of us was big enough to do any real damage to anybody on the field but we could aggravate and annoy the defenders with head butts so that the back could get by. As nice a guy as Barry was off the field, he was one tough competitor on the field. My favorite football memory of him was in the Gables game our senior year (I think!), when Barry got kicked in the head during a play and huddled up in THEIR huddle afterward! He had a concussion.

He was one of the nicest guys I have ever known, with a sweet smile and a helping attitude. I will forever be grateful to Barry for introducing me, and convincing me, to join Interact club in high school, a club to which he happened to be President. He appointed me Sgt at Arms and I was thrilled. There wasnt much to do as Sgt at Arms but the fact that he included me in his circle of friends meant a lot at the time, and still does today.

My Aunt Anna died at age 56 of Alzheimers so I know how devaststing it can be. Also, it runs in families so it has become even more personal as I grow older. Barry was one of my favorite people growing up and I still have a fond spot in my heart for him.

A good guy and good friend who had the good sense to marry his HHS sweetheart, Cheryl.  The two of them had many years (and children) together until the big guy called him home.  We him through the reunion ten years ago despite his deteriorating condition.  He wasn't allowed to drink beer but miraculously, he was able to smile and knock down a few. May he continue to rest in peace.
