Out of the blue, Nancy contacted me several years back. She said she was trying to find people from her past. I don't remember her from high school, but I do have memories from Palm Springs Junior High.  She was in most of my classes during 7th grade.  One day, in Basic Ed, Nancy had a blue Bic pen in her mouth.  The end cap came off and she had a mouthfull of ink.  Her teeth were blue for a few days, and she was teased by nearly everyone.  Anyone else would have been mortified, but Nancy took it all in stride.

Nanci Kendall lived two houses down from us on West 9th Avenue in Hialeah when we all were going to Meadowlane Elementary School and Palm Springs Junior High and Hialeah Senior High.  My sister, Lois Olson, and Nanci were good friends while growing up.  Nanci eventually moved to southern California and changed her name to Lola Shalom and was into natural nutrition and other group motivational activities.  She contracted a deadly form of brain cancer and fought bravely for over a year before she died on Jan. 24, 2011, at age 63. My sister, Lois, also died on Jan. 24, 2011, at age 63, from complications from lung cancer.  It was a very sad day for our family, but we have good memories of both of them.
