Drake and I grew up 4 houses apart at W. 9th Lane and W. 56th Place from 1957 to 1965.  We didn't hang out with the same guys so we weren't close friends but we saw each other often in the neighborhood, at Palm Springs Junior High and Hialeah High and we always said hello to each other and made small talk occasionally.

Below is the obituary notice for Drake, who passed away on November 2, 2012.  RIP Drake!

Drake was a big bear of a guy, very smart, but with a rebellious attitude toward a lot of things. He was friends with Charlie Smith in high school, who was also smart, and rebellious. Ten years ago it was rumored that he had earned a Doctorate somewhere in North Carolina and glaucoma, but it was never confirmed.

Just recently I was wondering about Drake.  We both attended Palm Springs Junior High, and it was Drake who first alerted me to an accident outside the school involving my parents.  He provided me a shoulder to cry on and much needed comfort that day.  We didn't associate with one another in high school, but we did become friends while I was doing my student teaching in Miami.  I hadn't heard the rumor about Drake obtaining a doctorate, but it wouldn't surprise me.  He was very smart, but didn't let most people know that.

Drake Jeffries was part of a tightly knit group of young guys that would hang out and see each other almost daily. I lived on the corner of West 55th Place and 10th Avenue, 1/2 block away from Palm Springs Junior High. Here's the list of the guys: Drake Jeffries, Harry Biles (married my cousin almost 50 years ago, retired), Chipper Campbell, Bobby Register, Don Cullars, Terry Rutter, Richie Aiello, Billy Anderson and me, Louie Carrillo. I am very sorry to hear about Drake. May he R.I.P. - I know how to find Cullars and Biles. Can anybody help me find Campbell, Register, Aiello, Rutter, or Anderson? I believe most of us ended up military veterans. My wife and I will be attending the HHS 50th if at all possible this May. (By the way, whomever looks over this site, my name is Louie Carrillo, not two same last names).
