I had classes with Mitch in 9th, 10th and 11th grade. With Mitch, you never knew what you were going to get but you could bet it would be funny. Gone way too soon, but not forgotten.
Mitch was a USMC veteran who had been wounded in Vietnam. He recovered in Japan and was sent back to Vietnam to finish his tour of duty (13 months in the USMC). His mother was the counter person at a dry cleaner that I used and she would keep me updated on him and his whereabouts. He was ultimately discharged from the service and returned to south Florida. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in south Dade on Nov. 16, 1968, when he apparently lost control and struck a tree. We lost a good guy on that day.
Mitch was a great friend. I was in 1st grade with him and many other classes throughout the next 12 years. He is missed greatly. I was drafted shortly before he was killed. Welcome back Mitch.
