HICKORY - Christopher Kyle Everley, 41, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at his residence. Born Oct. 17, 1968, in Queens, N.Y., he was the beloved son of Eva Marlene Rusin Everley and John Edward Everley of Hickory. He enjoyed playing all sports, but mainly enjoyed soccer. A former Boy Scout, Chris loved the outdoors, hiking and camping. He appreciated a good meal and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bruno and Marianne Adelaide Rusin; and his paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Evelyn Virginia Shelton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jeannine Cheryl Everley Evitt of Morristown, Tenn.; two brothers, Daniel Jay Everley of Hickory and Matthew Tate Everley and wife, Lauren Newton Everley, of Hickory; three nieces, Kimberly Dare Evitt of Morristown, Tenn., and Harper Elizabeth and Hayden Ray Everley of Hickory; two uncles, Jay Petit Rusin of New York, N.Y., and George Jacob "Jay" Shelton of Hawaii; and various aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Thomas Griffis and Bill Garrard officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials in Chris' memory may be made to the North Carolina Sierra Club, "Pisgah National Forest," 402 W.
