Marianne Fell (Rudman)

Date of death:  September 11, 1974

Residence at time of death:  Highland Park

Family:  Husband Jerry; sons Steve, David, Peter and Adam

Marianne's life:   The caption under her picture in the 1959 Little Giant read: "God has placed the genius of women in their hearts because the works of his genius are always works of love."   The senior class elected her "Best Dressed Girl," but everyone knew there was more to her appeal than clothing.  She was, simply, a beautiful person with a cheery, outgoing approach to everyone who crossed her path.   She met and married Jerry while both were students at the U. of Wisconsin.  She came back to Highland Park to raise her family.   She was known to everyone as a teriffic mom, dedicated to her four boys and her husband.

Marianne was that rare young person who was genuine, authentic, warm and fun during a time when many of us were caught up in the ongoing contest to be "in." One memory I have is a day when Marianne got her dad to agree to let some of us pose as mannequins in Fell's window. We had a great time surprising people by moving just a bit as they walked by. I, too, remember her as cheerful, and beautiful inside and out.

I will never forget Marianne. She always had a smile on her face and a good word for everyone. We went through Sunday school and Hebrew school together. Classes weren’t so bad when I could connect with her and gossip about what was going on around us. When I think of Marianne, I also think of Heather; it appeared that they were always together, laughing and having so much fun. I also think of her parents, Fred and Pearl, talking with friends and customers, always asking how the family was. Finally, I remember how sad I felt when I heard that Marianne had passed away, especially since she he had married and had children early as I did. Though it had been years since we had connected, it seemed inconceivable that such a vibrant woman who had so many good things going for her could have had her life cut short so early.
