Barb graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Kankakee, Illinois, then went to work at Highland Park Hospital.  She met  Steve Hill, a sailor who was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base, and the two fell in love and got married. 

They moved to San Diego, California, when Steve was transferred to the Navy base in that Navy town on the Pacific.    The couple raised their four children in San Diego.  The last two were identical twin boys.  Barb's sister, Janet Lockwood, describes her as "a devoted wife and the ultimate Little League mother."

She is survived by her three sons and one daughter,  and six grandchildren.
