We were in 8th grade he was visiting relatives in Portage he got trapped under about 8 feet of sand. He fell in a hole and all the sand rushed in on him. Very sad we were very good friends.
My aunt was on the ER shift the day Bill was brought in. I remember this very well because at the time I had an immense crush on Jay Pope who was his best friend. My aunt said it was one of the saddest things they had ever seen and the entire ER team was really broken up over it. It was also one of those things I can't shake now as a parent because who ever thought a sand hill could be so dangerous?
