Obituary for William Joseph Haas

William Joseph Haas (Bill), 85, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away on May 28, 2024, after suffering a seizure. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2020.

Bill was born on July 7, 1938 to Fern and Vernon Haas in Gary, Indiana. After graduating from Hobart High School in 1956, Bill studied Electrical Engineering and Physics at Purdue University where he graduated in 1961. He also pursued studies toward a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at George Washington University.

After college graduation, Bill worked for San Diego Gas and Electric in San Diego, California briefly before being drafted into the US Army. After receiving an honorable discharge from the US Army, Bill worked as a Civil Servant at Fort Belvoir, Virginia for approximately 20 years. He later worked as a contractor for the Department of Defense in technical and managerial areas some of which took him all over the world.
He enjoyed playing golf and accompanying close friends as they traveled the East coast competing their horses in steeplechase races.

Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lorraine, and his daughters, Cynthia Haas, Kristin Keator (Hervey), and Theresa Haas; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Bill requested that any contributions be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
