Patrick Ambrose Demel, 49, died July 15, 2011 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born September 28, 1961 at Hoisington, the son of Ambrose L. and Patricia Jean (Hancock) Demel. He married Patricia Ann DePaolo February 7, 1986 at Great Bend, Kansas. They later divorced. A lifetime Hoisington resident, he was a shipper for Essex for twenty-five years. Mr. Demel was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #1521, both of Hoisington; and the NRA. Survivors include his parents, Ambrose L. and Jean Demel, Hoisington; three sons: Leonard Demel and wife Stephanie, Hoisington; Jonathan Demel, Hays, Kansas; and Charles Demel, Hoisington; his ex-wife, Patricia Ann Demel, Hoisington; four sisters: Cheri Haberman and husband Darin, Brentwood, Tennessee; Sandy Davis and husband Curt, Hoisington; Sue Rose and husband Tom, Hoisington; and Aimee Wyant and husband Dustin, Hoisington; four brothers: Don Demel and wife Christa, Great Bend; Sam Demel and wife Lynda, Newton, Kansas; Ben Demel and wife Kathy, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Joe Demel, Liebenthal, Kansas; five grandchildren; and twenty-one nieces and nephews; and eleven great-nieces and nephews. Vigil service will be at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Francis Oroffa will be celebrant. Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. John Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus Council #1521, in care of the funeral home.
