Artie went to Aliamanu Elementary and freshman and sophomore year to Radford. He was played JV football his freshman year. Lived on Hickham, enjoyed the outdoor movie theater on base and went flying with the Civil Air Patrol.

Harold Arturo Benson, 44, a Fort Worth disc jockey, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, in Fort Worth after participating in a motorcycle run to raise dollars and toys for needy children.

Funeral: 1 p.m. at Carter Metropolitan CME, 4601 Wichita, in Forest Hill. Burial: Laurel Land, 7100 Crowley Road, in Fort Worth.

An officer in a motorcycle club called Wino's Crew, he was leaving the annual Big Texas Toy Run when he fell from his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

"He rode his bike when he got off work and on weekends. He loved his bike, Art participated in the charity run for the past several years “He was always ready to help others even when he didn’t have everything—He was my Hero. “ said his sister Michielle Benson, band director at O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth. "He had a big heart,” his sister, D'Metria Benson, a Dallas attorney said, adding that it was really touching to see how many people loved and cared about him.

Friends referred to him as a gentle giant. Those in the motorcycle club called him their brother.

Harold Benson, who had a bachelor's degree from Peru State College in Peru, Neb., enjoyed engaging in philosophical discussions with his pals. He collected Harley Davidson memorabilia, record albums and antique cigarette lighters.

He was born in Athens, Texas, Dec. 1, 1957, the oldest of the late Harold and Betty Benson's three children. After graduating from college in 1982, he moved to Forest Hill to be closer to his family. He owned a disc jockey service called RPM Enterprises, which operated in various clubs around town. Mr. Benson also occasionally tended bar. In the early 1990s, he worked for American Airlines as a ground Crew Chief, handling baggage and directing planes for about five years. An on-the-job back injury ended his career with American Airlines.

Survivors: Son, Raymond Benson; sisters, D'Metria Benson, Dallas; Michielle Benson, Fort Worth; girlfriend, Theresa Anderson, of Forest Hill; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
