Virginia Alberta Smith Mendenhall, 62, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at her home.

She was born in Hope.

Virginia was an active member of Wyatt Baptist Church, where she prepared many meals for the Wednesday night services. She and her husband fostered more than 25 children during their marriage over the years. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert A. and Cora England Smith; brothers, Elmer Smith, James W. Smith, Rufus Smith, Charles Smith and Alferd Ray Smith; and a sister, Mildred Middlebrooks.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Marlon Mendenhall; sisters, Geneva Bowlin of Conway and Marie Harris of Magnolia; brothers, Howard Smith of Texarkana, Tommy Smith of Hope and Fred Smith of Magnolia; brothers-in-law, Larry, Ricky, Glen and Chris Mendenhall of El Dorado; a sister-in-law, Betty Zeek of El Dorado; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Liberty Cemetery.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Liberty Cemetery near Louann with the Rev. Gerald Perry officiating under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels of El Dorado.
