
James “Big Jim” Joseph Pakenas of Warminster passed into eternal
slumber on December 22, 2024, at the age of 76. He was the
husband of Kathleen (Nugent) Pakenas for 53 years.
Born in Hatboro, James was the son of Joseph and Mary Pakenas.
He graduated from Hatboro Horsham High School. Big Jim earned
Hatboro Horsham High School Hall of Fame recognition with his shot-
put and discus records that stood for decades. After high school he
served two tours in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He worked as a union
roofer and sheet metal craftsman until his retirement.
Big Jim was a simple man who never asked for anything more than a
day of fishing on Long Beach Island, a cold beer and good company.
Spending time with his sons and eventually grandchildren was always
on top of his list.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Matthew
Pakenas (Tracy), and Mark Pakenas; his grandchildren Cassidy, Carly,
James and Brooke, a great grandson Parker, and a bonus grandchild
Zachary. A sister Mary Gardner (Pakenas) and proceeded in death by
his sister Jane Sapoznikoļ¬ (Pakenas).
James’s absence will be felt deeply by those fortunate to have known
him and his deep booming voice and laugh that made him “Big Jim”.
