In Memory

C. Vicary (Vicky) Roth (Hedrick)

 CATHERINE VICARY ROTH HEDRICK (1947-2021)

Vicky Roth was born in Hatboro on May 28, 1947. Her parents, George and Elizabeth Roth, brought her home to the big white Victorian house on Monument Avenue where Elizabeth herself had grown up. Vicky spent her entire childhood in that house and attended Meadowbrook Elementary School. Elizabeth Roth was a highly educated Smith College graduate and to that end, she often took Vicky and her neighborhood friends on educational trips around the area.

High school activities on Vicky’s list included Drama Club, Spirit Committee, Future Teachers of America, manager of the JV basketball team in 1964, and two years of chorus. She is remembered as being quiet, wellorganized and a true and loyal friend.

After high school, she attended Brandywine College for 2 years where she would meet her first husband, Reymer Stoyer. They were married in 1971. In 1972, their daughter Elizabeth (Beth) was born. They divorced after a few years.

In 1977, Vicky married Earl Hedrick, a William Tenant graduate. In 1978, their son, David was born. Vicky was happy as a stay-at-home mom, helping with the school library, sewing, gardening, camping with their pop-up camper, and canoeing with the family.

As a member of Warminster Presbyterian Church, Vicky was known as a willing and hard-working volunteer for anything that was needed. Likewise, she and Earl were active members of the Warrington Township Fire Company.

Vicky was not present at any of our reunions, but on several occasions, she responded with updates. She and Earl lived in Chalfont for many years. She noted that beyond camping, the family also did a lot of bowling and skiing.

Vicky and Earl eventually retired to Eloy, Arizona. (50 miles northwest of Tucson). She kept in touch with old friends with yearly family updates at Christmas. She and Earl were happy in retirement, proud of their grandchildren and she always indicated her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Old friends from Hatboro recall that Vicky’s annual newsy Christmas letter stopped arriving about 3 years ago. It is assumed she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around that time. She died on August 3, 2021. We were unable to contact any of Vicky’s family members to learn about her final days, but they have asked for memorial contributions in Vicky’s name to Alzheimer’s Associations and also noted that she would be missed by her friend and nurse Lora.

Besides Earl, Vicky was survived by her children, Beth and David; and her three grandchildren- Mikael, Morgan, and Keira.

She was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Abington. Graveside services were held on August 17, 2021.

So sad to see Vicky's name added to our classmates who have passed. She was indeed quiet but friendly and definitely organized. I'm glad she at least got to retirement with her hubby out in Arizona. RIP Vicky, way too soon...

I am especially saddened to hear of Vicky’s passing. Vicky accompanied me to the prom, I hoped she would attend one of our reunions but I was disappointed. I am particularly saddened to learn that she may have suffered from dementia, it is a relentless and viscous ailment that took over and eventually stole my own mothers life. My heart goes out to her family, they have lost a sweet and kind soul.
