Charles (Chalky) Wells, age 74, son of D.P. Wells and Margaret (KIng) Wells was born January 14, 1946 in Houston, MO He passed away
November 23, 2020 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital after complications from colon surgery performed in Springfield, MO.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of 21 years; one brother, John Franklin Wells of Lynwood, WA; a sister, Deanna Kay Wells of Seattle, WA; and two step-sons, John (Jessie) Mosley and sons, Luke, and Nick of Holts Summit, MO, and Dylan (Joline) Mosley and son, Noll of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, and nephews.
Chalky graduated from Houston High School in 1964 and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1972. His career in pharmacy spanned 47 years, working as relief and staff pharmacist at various retail pharmacies and hospitals, ending at the TCMH pharmacy where he worked full time for ten years and part-time for five. He was well respected by his co-workers.
He was committed to the Houston Community, serving as a City Councilman for three terms, on the TCMH hospital board and the Bank of Houston board. A faithful member of the Houston United Methodist Church, Chalky was financial secretary, a member of the board of trustees, church council, and finance committee. He prayed regulary for those he knew were ill or struggling.
There were some serious health problems that Chalky had to deal with, but after a kidney transplant in 2017, things improved for a while. He looked to God for healing and strength.
Chalky loved and was loved so much by his family. He was strong, generous, wise, and caring. His family and many friends will miss him, his smile, his friendship, and his big, big heart.

It's a very sad day for me and many classmates to find out that Chalky has died. He gave a great fight all the way to the end. He was always positive and had a great outlook on life. He was always smiling and had a great laugh. Chalky was a great person and had a big heart. He did a lot for our community and if you ever need some help with anything he would always volunteer. Chalky our class of 1964 will miss you but we all know that you are with our Lord and Savior and out pain.

Chalky was my best man at our wedding. And growing up, he was as close to being a brother as I would ever have. RIP--you deserved it.

Chalky was a kind person that was well liked by everyone that knew him. He worked for the betterment of the city, community and TCMH. I felt great sorrow when I heard the news of his passing. He will surely be missed.

As my wife Barbara said at our 55th Reunion last year when she spoke for me, "We have no tomorrows. All we have is today." And today we found we have lost another dear classmate from the Houston High School Class of 1964. Chalky certainly embodied a kind & giving spirit as is known through his many community endeavors. Despite many medical setbacks, he continued to persevere, & kept on giving. And now, arriving in the Kingdom of Heaven, GOD doesn't need to ask Chalky what would he like to do, he's already busy doing what comes naturally, & we can be sure that Chalky will be waiting for each of us when it's our turn to enter. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Chalky. Until we meet again, we love you & will never forget your BIG HEART!

It was such a sad. sad day when Chalky passed away. I knew he was coming back to Springfield for more work, etc, and was still having problems, but hoped so much that they would get it under control. It's just hard to believe he's gone. There will never be anyone like him..so caring, funny, and a great friend to all. Please know you will never, ever be forgotten and made each of us a better person from being around you. Number one pride of the class of 1964.

I am sad to hear of the loss of Chalky. He was such a kind and fun guy. I remember we both attended the Methodist church and we would often have a small buffet after church. He would always tease me about being one of the first in line and teasing me about my big appetite. He had a great personality and was well liked by all. Rest In Peace, Chalky.
Charles Dreyer
This is a sad time for all of Chalky's classmates, and probably anyone who ever met him. He took me under his wing when I was a new guy and a week late starting HHS in 1960. I'll always remember his unique humor and incredible kindness that stayed with him throughout his life. I hope we can all meet again at a future reunion down the road. I can picture a lot of smiles when his name comes up.
