
Helen Elizabeth "Liz" Gebhardt passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at the age of 98 in Houston, Texas. Born on October 19, 1925, in Waco, Texas, to the late Robert Sr. and Helen (Houston) Claypool.
Liz's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and education.
Liz was a proud Baylor University and University of Houston Clear Lake alumna, carrying the light of knowledge into her professional life as an educator. Her passion for teaching was evident to all who knew her, as she guided countless young minds through their formative years. Her dedication to education culminated in her role as the esteemed principal of Broadway Baptist School, from which she retired after years of faithful service. Liz was also an avid bridge player and she took pride in her gardening.
Liz was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Joseph Gebhardt; her brother, Robert Claypool Jr.; and her son, Joseph Gebhardt Jr. She is survived by: her sister, Laura Dykeman; her children, Laurie Wheway and husband Ashley, Helen Jackson and husband Chuck; and daughter-in-law Donna Gebhardt.
Liz's legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren; Charles Kinard and wife Kim, Elizabeth Bauman, and Nicholas Jackson; as well as her great-grandchildren, Caden and Kinsley Kinard.
Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, as she was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jacinto City, where she nurtured her spiritual life and formed lasting friendships.
Liz's family invites you to join them for a graveside service at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest, together with her husband, in Waco, Texas.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Liz's memory to First Baptist Church of Jacinto City - 10701 Wiggins St. Houston, Texas 77029.
