Rex, hopefully we will get more than 1 response.  Why don't you and Mary come along next year?  We were hoping to get maybe 8 couples.

Louis, I will.  We have a whole year and a lot can change during that year.  As we see a lot has changed in just a few days. I would say that any class member that wants to go let us hear from you.  We just thought it would be a fun way to visit and catch up,

Everyone is always saying how scary & dangerous the neighborhood by Sam Houston is;  That is where I live for 42 years and have never had any trouble. So glad I choose to live there with all the flooding in Houston I have no flooding on my street or in my yard. Yea for the old neighborhoods!!!!

Hello Louis,

I think all the hospitals in the Medical Center are just taking emergencies.  Ben Taub, Hermann and MD Anderson took in water.  After the last flood  (Allison) UT installed submarine doors in the basement of the medical school and at the School of Public Health.  They were closed on Friday so hope they did the job of keeping water out.  I am going to venture down that way today to check out my apartment.  I have an apartment in UT Housing which is located just east of  Reliant.  I am concered becaus it is on the 1st level and water stands on the front when there is just a shower. Just hoping I can get in.

Check with you doctor before driving down there.  Also, be careful if you decide to go.  Don't drive through any standing water .

I am so glad your home made it thru the turmoil of Harvey and you are safe.

Do you know how that area faired this time.   It was ok during the Allison storm.

My sister Carol- SHHS '65 still lives there.

Good luck to you !

Fitcher huh...I lived at 234 Fitcher for 3-4 years some years back around 84-87 the corner house at Bauman and Fitcher. It was a rent house and we did have a flood while there so we moved and bought a place off Irvington and Crosstimbers lived there until 2004 when we sold and moved from Houston to Centerville.

Shirley ~ so glad you didn't flood ~ I love your neighborhood and am not afraid when I come andstay at your house. I think people that are not still inthe area feel scared just because it is unfamiliar to them. But we have no problem with it.....All is good!!

See ya soon!!

Judy

Thanks for the update!  I will contact my sis later when she returns.  I hope everyone got thru it ok.

Me and my fam live in the  midwest.    Mom told us that she and dad ,  shortly after the war, traveled around after flooding looking for a high&dry place to build.  When they built on Fichter, there were only a few homes on that street (1947)  and it had an oyster shell topping at first.

Judy Maxwell (1971)

The house is down almost at Fichter and Fulton.  I left Texas in '85 . I lived at the house

on Fichter till 1978-80 thereabouts.  Next to us were the Marions, across was the Schneiders,

and the Longs were on the corner of Fulton/Fichter .  So nice to hear from you Judy!

Judy and Shirley Maxwell:

Spoke to my sister today ( 9/3) and she is fine.

She is back at the house and it did NOT flood much over on Fichter/Fulton.

Her friend who lives in the area stayed during the storms  has a

lower elev. house and she said there was no flooding there either.  Carol checked

with the Texaco Mart on Berry/ Fulton said there was no flooding there either.

Am so happy that the old neighborhood survived that.

Class of 1967 you lost one of your member on 9/1/2017, Barbara Willis (Thames).  Untimely passing of a good friend.

Buddy Vassar (1967)

09/05/17 I took a walk back in time. I went to Resthaven/Earthman Cemetery on I45. I visited my father's grave. It was his birthday. After a few thoughts I quietly sang "Happy Birthday Daddy". He would have been 103 yoa but unfortunately he passed away when he was 61 yoa. So many memories.

I also drove by SHHS and then to where we once lived, 617 Harkness. I parked my truck at the corner of Harkness and Bauman. I walked from Bauman @ Harkness to Harkness @ McGallion,  then McGallion to Tallant, thenTallant east back to Harkness, and then back to my truck. It was a good walk. Last time I walked or rode a bike on those streets would have been in 1960. I think it was good for my soul. So many memories. One day we will meet again.

Thank you, Buddy Vassar, for such a touching rememberance.  I am sure that this brought back sweet memories to all of us who read it.  My dad went to his heavenly home in 1969 at the age of 54. . . much too young.

Thank you for sharing your sweet memories. The loss of our parents is so very difficult.  There is a Findagrave.com for a Melvin Edgar Vassar that may be your father based on the information you shared. It is free to view. Volunteers create that site. Look for Find A Grave Memorial# 52091196.

I know I have looked for and found Sam Houston students that have left us behind, and their families. May they rest in peace, and live on in the hearts of their loved ones.
