Hey Bren...glad your party was a success...sounds like you guys had a blast!

Ok they 5th sounds good! Then I can plan Johns' bday for the following weekend, or vice versa. Taye would make a great Santa....I forgot about him. We should see if Stacy Braswell can come and do pics for us...as Shelby is to young:( But Stacy does great pics! Plus Stacy went to Sam for a bit and could catch up with some old friends as well....

So Deana...does this mean you got the Egg Nog?????

Let me know what I can help with!

Rebecca Atchison (Welch)

Oh Thanks Bren...sometimes I myself don't know how I do it:)

Well Deana...start sharing those ideas:) Maybe we could all bring an item to donate to a homeless shelter or something. I know that's your thing and it means alot to you and it would be a good way to help you to give back! "Tigers giving Back" it has a good ring to it:)

10/27/08 04:45 PM #1388

Brenda Kasprzak (Schelski)

How about donating a coat or sweater for adults or children? Winter is comming up. With the turn out we had last time if everyone bought one item that would amount to alot of warmth for the homeless.

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Awwww...that's an awesome idea! I love that you thought of that! Donations for my favorite shelter...you so ROCK today!

I was just thinking...non-perishables, but what about something warm too?
Man...you gals are so on it today! I think that is an awesome idea...thanks so much!

10/27/08 06:17 PM #1390

Rebecca Atchison (Welch)

I like the coat and sweater thing, blankets are good too. Throw in some non perishables and you're set! I will save my Huggies boxes for you....does anyone remember decorating boxes at PH for Christmas donations....how fun!
I think we all Rock! Deana you make me wanna be a better person!!! Thanks!

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Becky...you teared me up.

I thank you for that. I believe strongly we are here in this life not only to do what we are meant to do, but to share, inspire and help anyone and everyone around us. We may not be able to change the world, but we can change ourselves. That, to me, makes a difference.

I am so thrilled. I will make a list of that information to be included in the party info, and pull up a list of my favorite homeless shelters for all people.

Thanks you guys.
Not only will we have fun, but we will open our hearts even more by doing that. You guys are so special.
Love

You make me glow

I know the holidays are crazy for most people, especially those of you with smaller babies and bigger families. We are quite laid back around the holidays and this year Shelby is spending Thanksgiving in Corpus with Michelle Tolan-Mutina, so Beau and I are just winging it. I don't think we are going to anyone's for dinner and I am not cooking, so we are pretty open! LOL...We try to get downtown every year and volunteer for the Thanksgiving feast. We are defenitely doing it this year so if anyone would like to join us, please do. It's quite easy to do. Just get there really early in the morning, sign up and they put you to work. It's a really great thing to do, and we enjoy it. So think about it! We usually meet up as a group (if we have one) and just head over there together. Not only is it just an all around good feeling, but it feels even better when shared with friends.

The 12th seems to be the best for Big Texas at the moment.

What do you guys think?
I will verify with them today and we can get started with lists, invites, etc.

Vicki Johnson (Patzold)

Deana-I kind of do the same thing, just in a different way. Around the holidays I tend to feed the masses. Being around the military there is always a group of guys who aren't going home for whatever reason. It might be to far to go for just a few days or maybe they just don't have the money at the time. Either way, there are plenty of Marines hanging around that have nothing else to do but hang out in their barricks. For the past 8 years we have opened our home up to the Marines that don't have anywhere else to go. This could me just a single Marine or it could be an entire family. Here at Camp Lejeune we have a place called the Wounded Warrior's Barricks. I even call and ask them if they have anyone that needs some place to spend the holiday. Those guys down there are pretty well taken care of. It's a unit solely for what it sounds like. It's Marines who have been wounded, weather it has been in Iraq or training. They have their own training facilities, entertainment room, for holidays they have people that cater for them.

I've enjoyed doing that over the years. The guys will come over and we all just sit around and eat. We always seem to have a big group that show up. It's so much fun, to find out the different places people are from. At the same time, what really touches your heart is when this guy you don't know takes a bite of something and gets this look on his face, then he turns to you and says this taste just like my mom's _________. To get a hug from that same Marine a while later thanking you for making them feel like they were just a little bit closer to family for the holidays. I guess that's why I haven't made a big deal about going home for the holidays, I would be leaving the other part of my family behind.

The 12th sounds good to me! I am excitd and ready for some fun:)

10/28/08 02:20 PM #1397

Brenda Kasprzak (Schelski)

I'm all for the 12th. I just hope my husbands Christmas party doesn't fall on the same night. I will have to check if they have a date yet.

10/28/08 03:48 PM #1398

Rebecca Atchison (Welch)

I think I will start decorating some boxes for donations. I think it's gonna be my favorite part of the party! Because I do have such a large family it doesn't leave me alot of time to do great things outside the home so with Deana's great inspiration I am super excited and ready to get busy! So I will bring the cookies and the donation boxes:)
My son is in ROTC and they collect every year for Christmas to give out gifts to children that may go without. This year they are doing a bike drive and raising money to buy bikes. They have collect soooooo much money so far. I think the count was up to $5000.00 which is incredible. I am super proud of him and his group also!!!

And V...I am sure all those marines and their families really appreciate all you do for them. Like you have said before so many of them are young families or couples that have never been away from their parents before. You make a great marine mom!
Everyone please remember to support our troops!!!!

Good job Becky!
I will start making our list. We will keep it like last time. Decorations, food, etc. We will add a Santa for pictures, candy canes and if you guys want to do gift exchanges, feel free. I know we are coming out of our pockets with this so it's no biggie if you don't want to. I have plenty of decorations (I guess you can see I do the party thing often..lol..yep I'm a dork) If you have any you want to add, just holla and I'll make a note.
I just need a small crew that may want to help me set up that night. I think it will be December 12th. That seems to be the ideal date with Big Texas. My contact lady should get back with me today with verification.

Sheryl, talk to Taye and see if he wants to be Santa for pictures and the prank on Beau. We will have him be Santa for about an hour, so that he doesn't have to be in Red Velvet all night...lol...unless that's his thing! LOL
We will need volunteers for food/snacks. Judging from the last party we can see that food did great! We had a ton of it! It was really amazing how much we had..that was cool.

Roll Call!
Fall in people
~:-)

Jonel,
The reunion company for our reunion night said our date was fine. They are moving forward with getting lists from the school and a commencement paper,(thanks to Jenny and you I already have) which I am sending.

Shall we announce the date now? We don't have the exact details, but at least classmates will have a date to schedule into their calendars and can begin making plans.

10/29/08 09:54 AM #1401

Jonel Bishop (Lockler)

Sounds good to me.

10/29/08 11:28 AM #1402

Brenda Kasprzak (Schelski)

Hey Sheryl... Will Taye do karaoke? Imagine the pics. Hilarious. Sharp Dressed Man like on the movie The Santa Clause.
Deana... What about holiday name tags for us to wear?
Might be able to find the gift stickers that are blank. Just add a persons name.
Classmates could wear a Santa hat or reindeer ears to the party. You can find them at the dollar stores everywhere. That would make for some great pics and we could pick out classmates from the crowd and of course this would be optional. I just think everyone would look so cute wearing them. Yes Deana I'm a big dork to.
