Coach Mairorana taught drafting and was a baseball coach at Spring Woods.

Obituary:
Charles "Coach" Maiorana, 67, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Charles was a loving husband, son and brother. He was also a teacher, coach, mentor and friend to many. He was born September 25, 1943 in Houston, Texas, graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1961 and received his BBA from Sam Houston State University in 1965. He was an officer of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and has continued a very close relationship with all his fraternity brothers. In 1966 Charles married Sandy Passalaqua and the following year began his legendary 33 year career as a baseball coach at Spring Woods High School, where he was named "The Winningest Baseball Coach" in SBISD history. After Sandy's death in 1994, he met his future wife, Linda Puhl and they were married July 4, 2005 on home plate at Spring Woods Tiger Field. Tiger Field was renamed Maiorana Field April 1, 2010.

Charles received numerous awards and honors throughout his distinguished career, including; The Texas Baseball Hall of Fame Induction 1995, The American Baseball Coaches Association Century Award for 703 career wins in 2000, Texas Italian American Sports Foundation 2000, Spring Woods Tiger Hall of Honor 2001, Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association 2003, The Fred Hartman Award for Long and Meritorious Service 2004, The Charlie Maiorana Award established by the RBI Baseball Foundation in 2007, and The Lee Egalnick Award 2010. December 12, 2009 was proclaimed Coach Charlie Maiorana Day by Houston Mayor, Bill White. He was President of Baseball USA "The Yard" 2000-2008 and the Commissioner of the Karl Young College Baseball League 2001-present.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, Frank Maiorana Sr. and his first wife Sandy. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his mother, Florence, sisters Cindy, Linda Woods and husband Jim, brother, Frank Jr. and wife Debbie, sisters-in-law Lynda Edwards and husband Richard, Carolyn Osborn and husband Ron, Suzan Murphy and husband Dan, father-in-law Frank Passalaqua and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving Coach are his assistant coaches and beloved former players who considered him their second dad.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 19, 2010 from 5-8 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Rd 77055. A funeral will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd. at 1:00 on Monday with a reception immediately following in Bagby Parish Hall. A private burial will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. His nephews will serve their Uncle Charles as pallbearers. The Sandy Mariorana Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 by friends of Spring Woods Baseball, 27 scholarships have been awarded and continues to support its' recipients yearly. The imprint Charles made on his students' lives is apparent by this letter found within his personal belongings.

Coach, At our football banquet there were awards given, but we feel that there was one award left out that we felt is so important. Throughout the past years under you, you have taught us to work as a family, show emotion, and to unite and strive together. Coach, you've taught us so many things that will help us throughout the rest of our lives. But the most important thing of all is that special kind of love for one another. Now we're giving you our special award of love from us. We think you're the greatest, and a special person to us.
