Robert Bruce
1949-2022
Obituary:
Robert Wayne Bruce was born on March 24, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Leta and Benjamin Bruce. The youngest of 3, Wayne grew up in a wonderful Christian home in the Aldine area of Houston, Texas.
Wayne always had a yearning to serve. In 1968 he entered the United States Marine Corp as a Rifleman. As most servicemen did in that era, he was dispatched to Vietnam. During his 2 years of active duty, he was awarded the National Defense Services Medal; the Vietnam Campaign Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; a Combat Action Ribbon; a Purple Heart Medal with a Letter of Appreciation; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. Upon his return to the states, he continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserve, gaining an honorable discharge in 1974.
Holding on to that will to serve, Wayne went to the law enforcement academy and began a 38-year career as a Texas Peace Officer. He worked for Harris County Texas Precinct 4 Constables Office and Honorably retired with 18 years from the Panorama Village Police Department in Montgomery County Texas.
On August 20, 2022, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 27 days, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called Wayne home to join his father and mother, Benjamin and Leta Bruce; his brother Paul Bruce; his sister Peggy Schultea, his son Bryan Paul Bruce and so many other beautiful family and friends; who made the glorious journey before him.
The proud legacy he leaves behind is illuminated by his wife Shirley Bruce of Cypress, Texas, his son Sam Bruce and wife Toye of Manvel, Texas, and Jason Wheat of Dayton, Ohio. Grandchildren: Brittany Graves and husband Michael of Porter, TX; Devon Bruce and wife, Britney of Cleveland, TX and Brenden Bruce of Cleveland, TX. He was also loved by his great-grandchildren, and a world full of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
On Friday, August 26, 2022, from 5pm to 8pm, we invite family and friends to visit with Wayne and his family at Klein Funeral Home 9719 Wortham Blvd. in Houston, Texas.
