Obituary:

MILDRED GAMBLE DAVIS, at age 80 years of age, Mildred passed peacefully in her sleep on March 15, 2003 surrounded by beloved family members. She was born on November 26, 1922, in Alexandria, Louisiana to Thomas Burnette Gamble and Ada Dean Gamble.

She was a graduate of SMU when she married Ralph Aden Davis and moved to Houston in 1948. Mildred taught in the Spring Branch Independent School District for 22 years and served as chairman of the Westchester High School Business Department.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph, with whom she enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 57 years, four children and four grandchildren. The children are: Sherilyn Edwards Bollman and husband, Bruce: Ronald B. Davis, wife, Deborah and son, Daniel; Stanley Davis, and wife, Suzie, and son, Baron; Linda Brawley, husband, Britt, and two children, Tanner and Alisha.

Mildred was an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church for 43 years. She was a founding member of the Houston Geological Auxiliary, a member of the Houston Junior Forum and numerous other organizations. Special interests included ballroom dancing, bridge, and music; she was especially talented at the organ and piano.

Mildred had a real zeal for life, never lost her faith during her battle with ALS, and was truly an inspiration to all.

Friends are invited to a memorial visitation with the family on Thursday, March 20, 2003; from 6-8 p.m. at Geo. H. Lewis, 1010 Bering Drive. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, with Rev. Carey B. Sayers officiating.
