Obituary:

Mildred Hanchey Ford, born on March 10, 1934 in De Ridder, Louisiana, passed away on June 1, 2018 in Sugar Land, Texas. She was the oldest child of Alice and Kinney Reid Hanchey, Sr.

After graduating from De Ridder High School, she attended LSU for 1 year where she met her beloved husband to be, Clyde Ford. They married in 1953 after her freshman year and then moved to Biloxi, Mississippi where Clyde served in the Air Force. They were subsequently transferred to Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, where they started their family. Both pursued further education, with Clyde obtaining a law degree in addition to his petroleum engineering degree and Mildred finishing her business degree at the University of Houston.

Mildred was a teacher at Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch ISD for 26 years, serving as head of the business department for most of that time until retiring in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde, and brother Kinney Reid Hanchey, Jr.

Mildred was a talented pianist having studied one summer at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Playing the piano brought her and others much joy. Mildred and Clyde also loved to travel, visiting 5 continents and making many great memories. She especially loved their trips to Western Europe and the Holy Land.

Mildred also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge with friends, but her true love was her children and grandchildren, all of whom she cherished. She is fondly remembered for hosting many memorable Easter and Christmas events at her home.

She was most recently a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sugar Land but had been a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston for about 47 years, where she sang in the choir and enjoyed fellowship with friends.

Mildred leaves her loving family to cherish her memory; son, Don Ford and wife Jane, and daughter, Brenda Ford Rogers and husband Randy; 6 grandchildren, David Ford and fiancée Kelly, Sarah Ford Ralph and husband Scott, Emily Ford Kids and husband Landon, Ryan Rogers, Austin Rogers and wife Heather, and Bethany Rogers; 4 great grandchildren, Luke, Ben and Sam Ralph and Walker Kids.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Mildred's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 2909 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas, 77025, or the charity of your choosing. A private family graveside service will be held in her honor and memory.
