Obituary:

Robert Lloyd Shelton of Cypress, Texas, was born August 5, 1926, in Harts' Bridge, Tennessee, and passed away August 20, 2014.

Bob is survived by his wife of 38 years, Naomi McDowell Shelton; sons Michael Shelton, wife Shannon; Pat Shelton; sister Peggy Leslie; step-son Ray Brevelle, wife Glennda; brother-in-law Rick McDowell, wife, Donna; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bob, a Scholar Athlete at Rice University, graduated with a B.S. degree in 1948, and went on to coach football and track in west Texas and at Westchester High School in Houston, Texas. At Westchester he served as a counselor, registrar and finally as the Associate Principal. He earned a M.A. degree and Certification in Supervision and Management at the University of Houston. Bob was honored as an Exemplary Educator in the Hall of Fame in Spring Branch in 1988, his 40th year in education.

After retirement he was a hospitality ambassador at Bush Intercontinental Airport, a volunteer for 12 years in the Emergency Room of Cy-Fair Medical Center and a Director on the Faulkey Gully Water Board for 12 years. Bob and Naomi joined the Lakewood United Methodist Church in 1977.

He was also a member of the Cy-Fair Lions' Club, the 100 Club, a contributor to the Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine, the Humane Society and of Citizens for Animal Protection.

His family mourns deeply the loss of his gentleness, generosity and loving spirit. Thanks and appreciation goes to the administrators, hospice workers and care givers at Silverado Memory Care Center on Cypresswood Drive.

Services will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 11330 Louetta Road, Houston, Texas, 77070 at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Pastor Joe Fort and Pastor Holly Wilson will officiate. The family requests no flowers, but should anyone wish, a contribution to the Ministries of Lakewood United Methodist Church would be greatly appreciated.
