Harvey, My wife and I met at Northline Shopping Mall and Steve worked at the store across the mall from us. He would have lunch with us and that is how my wife met him just before he left for Viet Nam. She and I have both shed tears touching his name on the Wall. He made us shed tears of laughter and tears of sadness. He was a great guy!
I was in grade school through high school with Steve. He was always friendly and nice to everyone. At one of our class reunions, I found out Steve had died in Vietnam. It is so sad for someone with so much potential to lose their life at so young an age. In 2003, the traveling wall came to Richland, Washington where I lived at the time. I made it a point to go to the wall, look up his name, and say a special prayer for Steve's soul.
This Afternoon 5/29/17 at 5:00 there will be a bell ringing ceremony at American Legion Post 560 (3720 Alba, Houston, Texas) during which both Steve Lewis & Johnny Gregg will have their names recognized aloud. Both men were our class' casualties in Vietnam in 1968.
