John Boyce (1963)

Bobby Ferguson was a quiet, unassuming guy and a very good friend. There were three of us who ran around together a lot - Bobby, Thomas Browne, and me. We became friends when we began bowling at San Jacinto HS in 1960, and since we all transferred to Westbury we stayed friends.

I still don't know how Bobby died. I asked Thomas about it some years ago and he didn't know either. If his brother Billy comes to the reunion maybe we will know.

Bobby always seemed to hold back. Sometimes a person comes along who just can't see the talents and potential he has and that seemed to be Bobby. His face was scarred by an acne problem that he seemed to have overcome years before, but he was far from ugly. He was a good looking guy who did not know it.  Both Thomas and I tried to tell him that the girls we talked to felt that way, but he thought we were kidding.

He still hung around the neighborhood after he graduated so we had the pleasure of his company one more year. I ran around mainly in two circles, one with Bobby and Thomas that sometimes included Dave Buchanan and Dennis Conn, and one with Rick Cumming and Robert Watkins that in my senior year also included Bing Goodale. Add Bruce Voorhies to the mix and these were my closest friends.

Sometimes the circles merged, but the longest and dearest was the one with Bobby and Thomas.
