Once, I had a friend who was a giant. Well, not really - Lisa Moore didn't even top 5 feet. But to those who knew her, she was a giant in everything but stature. We met in orchestra when I moved to Texas in junior high and played together through high school. Later in our lives, I was honored to play for her wedding to a good, strong loving man (and frantically scrub the lipstick streak out of her wedding gown while we dissolved in laughter and tears) and watch her begin her adult life. Life sent us on separate paths for many years and then brought us back together. She had a career in nursing, enjoyed broadcasting, politics, was a Kareoke queen, raised two wonderful children...loved her grandchild... so many things she was told she could not do and yet she did them and so much more. Her courage, her grace, her faith...her absolute JOY...made her larger than life to those who knew and loved her. Earlier this week, her incredible spirit slipped free, and while grateful she is no longer in pain and her joy now knows no bounds, rather selfishly, we...I...will miss her here.

Marney Cullen, thank you for that beautiful, touching testament to the life of our classmate, Lisa Gillespie Moore. I did not grow up with Lisa, nor did I share any classes with her at Westchester. Still, how could anyone not remember what a bright light she shone around her! I was more connected with her recently through Facebook, the medium that can be extremely outrageous but extremely wonderful when we reach a certain age, want to reconnect and can (hopefully) all let our guard down and be who we really are. I SO ADMIRED Lisa and her passion, clever wit, sense of humor and (later I discovered) her courage and faith. If I could live my youth all over again, I'd have as many Lisa Gillespie Moore's as my closest friends as possible. Heaven is certainly a bit lighter and laughing today because her spirit lives there among our loved ones!

I was saddened to learn recently of Lisa's passing.  During a trip to Dallas a few years ago I got to have lunch with her.  She was a stong believer in High School and I remember her engaging several of us in discussions about Jesus and the authenticity of scripture.  I always admired her strength and looked forward to telling her that I too had become a believer.  She will be missed!

I wanted to share this sweet exchange I shared with Lisa just prior to her passing. Like Colleen Reed, I knew who Lisa was but did not know her at all...until I happened to see her Facebook page. How could you not be touched by her courage and humor after reading some of her posts?  Anyway, I messaged her and had this brief exchange...I'm so glad I did.
