Jimmy Ray Hester, Sr.

Born, September 17, 1957 and passed away peacefully on March. 16, 2024 in Houston, Texas.

Jimmy was born in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 1976. After high school, Jimmy joined the United States Marine Corps. He was trained as an anti-tank assault man and a water safety/survival instructor. While serving, he was awarded a badge in Rifle Sharpshooting. He was honorably discharged in 1978.

Once he was home from the service, he became a certified HVAC technician for over 25 years. He worked closely with his uncle Doug for many years in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, Texas.

Jimmy also worked for a Commercial Industrial Machine company for 10 years before retiring early. He loved being a dad at home and living with his son Jimmy, watching cooking shows and westerns and also spending time with his niece and her family on holidays and dinner outings.  He loved being our "Unc". 

Jimmy is proceeded in death by his mother, Stella Mae Hester Gamel; sister Virginia “Ginny” Lynn Salter; and nephew Shadey Hester.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Jimmy Ray Hester II of Houston, Texas; father Otis Leroy Hester of Azle, Texas; brother Vernon Hester and wife Tana Hester of Nacogdoches, Texas; nieces, Brandi Miranda and husband Daniel Miranda of Cypress, Texas; Shea Sprayberry and husband Jason Sprayberry; Shaleah Hester of Fort Worth, Texas; Shyrah Jones and husband Brandon Jones of Tyler, Texas; nephews Blake Prentice, Cody and Griffin Miranda; great-nephews Hunnter Sprayberry, Crayden and Ckyedyn Jones and a number of cousins, family and friends.

There was a memorial service for Jimmy Hester at the Houston National Cemetery on April. 5, 2024.
