Ramona Ann (Mona) Landry passed from this earth on Saturday, July 12, 2020. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mona was born in Austin, Texas to Tony and Juanita Landry on Dec. 4, 1957. The Landrys later moved to the Alief area of Houston where Mona grew up. She still lived in the family home. After graduating from Alief Hastings High School in 1976, she was employed in the banking business and spent more than 20 years working at Bank of Texas, Tanglewood. Bank employees who worked with Mona sent messages about her passing. “She was a great lady and always a loyal employee,” said Rich Jochetz.
Pat Ford said “Mona was a sweet person and the customers loved her.” Mona enjoyed her work at the bank over the years and she said frequently that she felt her customers were like family. Many customers would bring her Christmas and birthday gifts and wait in line at the bank so she could serve them.
Mona has been retired for six years and in retirement she enjoyed antiques and particularly shopping for antiques and other collectibles like blue and turquoise glass, crosses, and bunnies. She also enjoyed the ponies at Sam Houston Racetrack and playing the Texas Lotto – hoping her lucky numbers would bring her that elusive jackpot so she could also “retire” all her loved ones.
Mona lived her life as a Christian and was confirmed at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in the Alief area. She was openly appreciative for having Christian parents who raised her to love the Lord. She was passionate and concerned about the current political environment and enjoyed lively discussions. In her later years, Aunt Mona enjoyed watching her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews grow up. She enjoyed gathering with family at Thanksgiving and Christmas and playing Mexican Train dominoes. She was the Mexican Domino queen, where she would win often with the double zero and one domino!
She also enjoyed visiting her brother’s beach house at North Padre Island where she enjoyed sitting on the deck at a seafood restaurant, and relaxing and watching the waves at the beach. Mona is survived by brother Ed Landry and wife Mary; sister Susan (Landry) Young and husband Jed Young; and brother Joe Landry and wife Stacy.
Nieces and nephews include Delaney Landry; Felix (Bo) Landry and wife Faith; Mindy (Young) Camp and husband Brien Camp; Monet Young and fiancé Jonathan Foster; Kate Van Norman; Elizabeth (Landry) Brinker and husband Jacob Brinker; Mason Young and wife Erin; and Lauren Landry and Payten Landry. Great-nieces and great-nephews include: Cyrus, Jesse and Amber Landry; and Colton Camp.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 p.m. Both services will be in the Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077.
