I was very saddened to hear about Paul. I found this online. I think everyone needs to have their story told.
Paul went home to be with our Lord, on January 17, 2015, after a short, but tough battle, with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends during his passing, which was very peaceful and in the comfort of his home.
Paul was born in Orange, Texas on March 31, 1958 to Paul, Sr. (deceased) and Betty Bailey LaBonte, of Houston. He has a sister Pam LaBonte Parker, who resides in Houston with her husband, Philip Parker. His brother, Pete LaBonte lives in New Braunfels with his wife, Vicky Young LaBonte.
God introduced Paul to the love of his life, Naomi Bowers LaBonte in 1984 and they were married November 17th of that year. They were blessed with the birth of their son Samuel, in December of 1994, after many years of prayer for a child. Samuel attends the University of Houston. Paul and Naomi always opened their home to anyone and God sent them Coby Kees, who they raised as their own son during his teenage years and beyond. Paul also had many “Children of his Heart”. Those included William (Bill) D. Teel, Jennifer Bowers, Amber Bowers Lewis, Alese Bowers Noland, Lana Bowers, Tara Bowers and Kinsey LaBonte Kinsey. He loved them all as his own children, just like our Heavenly Father demonstrates to all of us.
Paul entered the Houston Police Department, in August of 1980 and rose to the rank of Sergeant and served with pride, as an HPD Chaplain. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service to our community, in December 2000. While serving the city of Houston, Paul finished up his bachelor’s degree at Houston Baptist University and earned his Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages, at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Paul was the pastor of Community Baptist Church, in Sheldon, Texas.
Paul was a Godly man and was such a great example to all of us of unshakable faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ even when times were tough. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said; ”The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. Those who knew Paul can testify that he stood firm on God’s word, at all times and his faith never faltered. Paul ran the race that God set for him with courage, conviction and perseverance, and finished strong for Christ! He was a Warrior for Christ and a Man’s Man, through and through. Paul will be missed but for those who believe in the salvation given through Christ, we will see him again!

Thank you so much, Jewell, I agree about telling each story. This is a great help for the memorial for the reunion.
