Carolyn (Harrison) Phillips Severs was born on the 29th of December 1943, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and joined other heavenly angels on the Monday, the 12th of December 2022, from her beautiful Victorian home in the Heights at the age of 78.
Carolyn was the daughter of the late JB and Marie (Pirkey) Harrison. She married Jerry Ellison Phillips at Old Shiloh United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois on the 9th of November 1962. Jerry preceded her in death on the 2nd of September 1976.
On 14th of October 1978, Carolyn married Glen M. Severs, Jr. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Texas. They recently celebrated their 44th anniversary. She was active in the Methodist Church throughout her life. She served as President of the Women's Society at Asbury in Pasadena and most recently served as Treasurer of the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church in Downtown Houston. Carolyn dedicated her life to service in the church and in her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother.
She cherished providing full-time daycare to her son Brent's three children and taking them on spring break vacations to Monticello, Disney World and many times to Disneyland. She also enjoyed Mississippi River cruises and traveled to Germany twice to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau. The first time was with her mother and daughter and the second time with her husband, Glen.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Glen M. Severs, Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Phillips; her son, Brent E. Phillips and his wife Charlotte, and their children Kyle, Keely, and Keira; her stepson, Glen Ray Severs and his wife Janet; his daughters, Caitlin and Sara; her stepdaughters, Debbie Ghani and Sherrie Stevens; and four grandsons, Todd and Ben Swonke, and Randall and Robby Martin; her half brother, Rodney Isaac and his wife Lucy, and their children Sara Clark and Sherla House; and her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Oreo.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Carolyn during a visitation to be held from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Saturday, the 17th of December, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 18th of December 2022, in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main Street in Houston, where Pastor Ann Spears is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent church foyer.
