Rick was my neighbor, classmate and as good a friend as our differences would allow. I always kept his family in mind when I thought about how a family should be, hard working, godly, kind and simply focused on good things. I was most anxious to see him at the reunion and convey my regards, and thank God I did. His passing is a loss to the world and a gain for Heaven. He and his folks strongly influenced my own commitment to Christ.
God Bless his loved ones as well as his memory.

Rick was a gentleman and lived his faith out front. He was one of those whom I viewed on the "inside" who treated those on the "outside" with the same courtesy and respect he gave to his closest friends. I'm am so sorry to be just finding this out. God bless his family as they are a blessing to all that know them.

About three years ago I attempted to locate several classmates, including Rick Johnson, who I hadn't seen since high school. The visual image of of Rick that kept popping into my head was of him running down C street in Oxnard with who I believe was Virginia's brother. I had never heard of cross country running at the time but became aware of the stamina, discipline, and mental toughness required by the sport. Rick possessed all these qualities and then some. I had been in the E. O. Green and Hueneme High School bands with Rick for quite a few years- he played a great baritone, and I played a mediocre clarinet. We also had the opportunity over the years to play softball and basketball together. Rick had a deadly mid range jump shot that was impossible to stop. Though I hadn't seen Rick in over forty years, I knew he attended college in Arkansas, majored in English and married. I failed in any attempt to locate Rick until my discovery last week of the terrific class of 1968 website. I was shocked, however, to see the name of Rick Johnson in the memorial section, and deeply saddened by this discovery for several days-I had always planned on reconnecting with Rick someday. Time, however, has a habit of delaying the best of plans. Ricky Johnson, or Johnny Rickson as our band director Mr. Jardine was fond of calling him, was an amazing person with a compassionate heart. My enduring memory of Rick will always be the one that has periodically popped into my head over the years of him running down the road, while wearing his signature high school black rimmed glasses.
