Most bittersweet memory: Aprx. 10 yrs. ago..Corinne Ackerman, my very, very best friend (like a sister) was in the hospital down South. Doctors said this is it (last stage of cancer), time to go home.
I went to pick her up from the hospital. First, I went to a shop that makes team shirts, hats, etc. only for teams, not individuals. When I explained what and why I needed a tye-dyed baseball hat, they made me one on the spot. Corinne had lost all her hair and the tye-dye was well, a memory from the sixties for us. I will be forever grateful to that business for doing that. Next I gathered up all the tapes of the music we used to listen to back then. I had a bag full. Then I stopped and bought a boom-box.
Picked her up from the hospital. She had on a robe, slippers, and that tye-dye cap and I took her everywhere she wanted to go, to see and by a few places so she could say her farewells. She then wanted to go thru Wendys and get burgers and fries, which we did and went back to her place. We spent the rest of the day and late, very late into the evening listening to all those tapes, reminising, laughing and crying. That was the last day I got to spend with her, but it was the greatest for us both.
